In 2022 PCWA received a Lower Delaware River Wild & Scenic grant for the first Solebury Arboretum. A riparian planting model demonstration site that will help defend against future erosion of the Primrose Creek corridor. This project will also add multiple “green infrastructure” benefits to strategically targeted locations along the Primrose Creek streambank.
Under this project PCWA and its school partners will restore a ½ acre of hydrophilic native understory of buttonbush, sassafras and dog wood varieties, transitioning to a tree canopy of bee loving willow, linden, spicebush and hackberry. These new canopies will also cool water temperatures, protect habitat of endangered honeybees and reduce pollution entering the Delaware river. More information about the new honeybee hives and apiarists Staci Freer and Ed Leydon will be posted.
